Sad news. My beloved yellow labrador, Katie, passed away today at the age of 13. I’m actually quite amazed that she lived for almost 14 years considering her propensity for junk food and dislike of anything remotely resembling exercise. Health-wise, she had her good days and her bad days during these previous few years. I wasn’t home much for the past five years, just a few months here and there when college was out for the summer. When it came time to go back to DC or London, I always said goodbye hoping that she would still be there when I returned the next time. This past January, though, as I gave her a last hug and headed off to the airport on that chilly, pre-dawn morning, I somehow knew that she probably wouldn’t be around the next time I came home. The trip back home for Christmas just won’t be the same this year. You will be missed, Katie.

Lindsay, She was absolutely the best dog! We feel so lucky to have had her all these years. And what about you, when you threw youself down on our bed and cried until we said you could have her! Little did we know how we would all come to love and cherish her.

But we still miss Clancy, just as much as I’m sure you miss Katie. May they be together now, both romping around in a good place.

I’m sorry to hear that, Lindsay…but she was pretty old for a Lab. Sounds like she had an absolutely fabulous life! I remember when we lost the dog I had pretty much grown up with…your family may get other dogs and you’ll love them too…but its never the same…

I don’t normally read blogs or do the guestbook thing (was searching for Moscow info), but I happened to stumble across the latest entry about your dog.
It took me 3 or 4 months to really get over the loss of a Beagle that practically helped raise me. Even though she died about 10 years ago, I still think about her and wipe away a tear once in a while. We had her for 14 years much like your Katie. Sorry for your loss.
