I'm an expat Californian who is obsessed with traveling to strange and exotic destinations in the former Communist Bloc. I also like tacos, surfing, and the geopolitics of oil. Washington, D.C. is currently my home, but I'm looking to break out of this fetid swamp someday. Read more about me here, check out my photo album, or send me an e-mail.

I grew up in Rancho Mirage, California, a small city located in the Coachella Valley. It's a few miles from the famous resort town of Palm Springs, which is actually an incredibly boring place to live unless you like to play golf. We do have some nice winter weather, though.
I attended The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and graduated in December 2003 with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Russian & Eastern European History. I spent the summer of 2002 studying at St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University in St. Petersburg, Russia. I went back to Russia in the summer of 2003 and studied at Moscow State University. I speak Russian quite poorly, but can sing "Kalinka" or "Moscow Nights" if I've had enough vodka.
In September 2005, I completed my Master's degree in Russian and Post-Soviet Studies at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom.
I moved back to Washington, D.C. in January 2006 and currently work for a trade association that represents major energy corporations.
I really like to travel, and the primary reason this blog exists is to document the places I've visited. So far I've been to Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Hungary, Belgium, Croatia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Montenegro, Egypt, Italy, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, and Poland. And of course, like a true tourist, I photograph just about everything.
I also like to surf, but unfortunately don't get to do that since I live in DC and all...maybe when I retire...
If you want to know more, then send me an e-mail. It might take me a few days to reply, but I'll get around to it.
