About

I'm an expat Californian who is obsessed with traveling to strange and exotic destinations in the former Communist Bloc. I also like tacos, beer, surfing, trapshooting, and the geopolitics of oil. I currently live in Arlington, Virginia and work in Washington, DC. Read more about me here, check out my photo album, or send me an e-mail.

On January 12, I’m moving back to D.C. Yeah, it’s kind of soon, and sudden, but applying for jobs while I am in Palm Desert doesn’t seem to be going too well, and I can’t even apply for most of the D.C.-based positions because they only want local candidates to send in their resumes. Besides, I’d rather be doing anything in D.C., even if it’s just temping, than sitting here in Palm Desert. I’m initially staying in Northern Virginia with Liz and Nick, my friends from college, and I’m really looking forward to getting out there and seeing all of my old friends, many of whom I haven’t seen since my graduation from GW in May 2004.

And, if I remember correctly, the weather during this time of year is excellent:

    Hmmm…or not.

Now, does anyone know where the hell I put my SmarTrip card?

Also, coming up soon: a post about a daytrip to LA, and more London photos.

    2. Soviet Christmas and New Years cards Every year I tell myself that I am going to send out holiday greetings cards, but I never get around to it. I came across this website where you can send e-cards with images of old Soviet holiday cards. If some enterprising person were to reproduce an actual set...
    3. Dude, lindsayfincher.com is eight years old today! Crazy, huh? I registered this domain name back in September 2000 (when I was a freshman at GDub) and have been spouting nonsense ever since! I’m sure there will be many more years of that to come. Like, when I’m 80 years old I’ll be complaining about something, ya...
    4. Catholic School Hell: Eight long years at St. Theresa School I am the product of a Catholic School education. More specifically, I am the product of a hellish eight year long boot camp style education thanks to St. Theresa School in Palm Springs, CA. The reason I bring this up is due to a recent conversation between myself and...
    5. Mount Everest ain’t got nothin’ on me I’m back from our day trip to Joshua Tree and have a ton of photos that I will upload when I get a chance. Here’s a few from another hike we took yesterday morning. Heeeey, I can see my house from here! Don’t you hate it when you hike...

been awhile since i have read your blog. thanx for posting pictures > always awesum! i see you have also run into the single set back of having a poli-sci degree (getting a job). any thought of earning a teacher’s certificate and instructing kids who inhabit the halls of high school? it feels weird to refer to “those young people” who are now high school students as “kids.” it kinda does make you feel old. anyway, think of how impressive a teacher’s job looks on a resume’ 2 – 3 years from now, if the u.s. post office still isn’t hiring lol.

    • Naw, I don’t think I would be a very good teacher, so it’s for the better that I stay away from teaching.
