Tourist Season

Now that the weather is actually nice (well, kind of nice…I would prefer much warmer weather) all the tourists are coming to DC.  My one gripe with tourists is their inability to follow Metro etiquette.  Stand on the right, walk on the left – how hard is this to understand people???  Also, please control your children while riding on the Metro.  The handbars are NOT monkey bars.  Planning on coming to DC?  Here are some tips for DC tourists.

Only one more week of classes!  And then finals icon sad Tourist Season

Cherry Blossoms and Protests

Ah, spring in DC…what could be better than Cherry Blossoms and World Bank/IMF meetings?  Well, a lot of things actually, but we make do with what we have in this city.

Every year, the Cherry Blossoms along the tidal basin bloom…wow…exciting.  Yes, they are very pretty, but nothing to fly across the country for.  So for those of you that couldn’t make it down to D.C. to check out the trees, here are some pictures.

The World Bank and IMF also hold meetings during the spring, and for a weekend the city is turned into a police state.  Laura and I were bored so we went out and took some pictures of the protesters and riot police.  Sadly, nothing eventful happened.

Comrade Gorby has a new home

I got the coolest doll off eBay for a buck.  It’s a Mikhail Gorbachev doll produced around 1990.  He’s about 10 inches tall and when you squeeze him he squeaks.  I’m trying to figure out how I can rig a voicebox so he says “glasnost” and “perestroika.”  That would be sweet.

Anyway, here is Gorby:

Gorby is wearing black corduroy pants, a red and black striped shirt, and a black leather jacket that says “Gorby” on the back.  I found this to be quite odd, as I never knew about Mikhail Gorbachev’s secret life as a Hell’s Angel.  I would expect a Gorby doll to be dressed in a suit, but eh, whatever.

In other news, good luck to all those college grads in search of a job!

Tony Blair is going to be on the Simpsons…well, his voice anyways. icon smile Comrade Gorby has a new home

It is FINALLY Spring!

Today’s temp was in the mid 80s.  I am very happy.

Everyone in DC, you like this weather?  This is what I go back to for winter break while all of you are freezing your asses off in NY and NJ.

One request – can someone please turn the air conditioning on in New Hall?  I’d appreciate it.

My dorm room = fallout shelter

Behold the newest sign to grace the walls of my New Hall room…

I have officially declared my room to be a fallout shelter.  In case of nuclear attack, you are all welcome to join Cindy, Tracy, Amy, and I.  We have plenty of rations (i.e. goldfish crackers and red vines).  Now all I need is some plastic sheeting and duct tape – then my room will be rated for both nuclear and chemical attacks.

And NO I did not rip this sign off a government building in D.C., thank you very much!

Jeter out

Yanks shortstop Derek Jeter is out for at least six weeks after dislocating his shoulder during a game.  Boohoo, sucks for you Yankees fans.

I’m glad I wasn’t around George Steinbrenner when he found out Jeter wouldn’t be putting on the pinstripes for another six weeks…actually, I’m glad that I’m never around Steinbrenner – that guy is nuts.

No more Hugh Grant movies?

Supposedly, Hugh Grant is tired of acting and wants to quit.  This will just not do – what movies will Liz, Laura, Cindy, and I watch during our study breaks?  I suppose we could recycle the same movies over and over, but I would much prefer that Mr Grant continue to provide us with those adorable romantic comedies.  Grant says he would like to get married and settle down…where do I send my application?
